I’ve never been much of a risk taker. I’m more of a play-it-safe kind of gal. But lately I’ve been inspired by people who take risks. Big risks.
It started when we visited Magnolia Market at the Silos in Waco, Texas. I’ve always been a Chip and Jo fan but visiting the area made me want to learn more about their journey. I listened to their audio book, Magnolia Story and was blown away at the amount of risks they took again and again.
When I first started listening to their story, all of their risk taking sounded foolish to me. But as they continued to describe how they chased after their dreams, something in me shifted. My thoughts went from foolish to admiration. And as you know, all their risks paid off big time.
I came across this poem from Erin Hanson and loved it. It stirs that desire to take risks and push against the fears that keep us from doing so. Here is the whole poem:
“There is freedom waiting for you,
On the breezes of the sky,
And you ask “What if I fall?”
Oh but my darling,
What if you fly?”
― Erin Hanson
I took part of the poem and created this free printable in four different colors so you can hang it up in your nursery and encourage your child to be a risk taker. It’s sized at 8×10 so it will fit nicely in a frame.
The fear of falling often keeps me from taking risks. But now I want to push through those fears and try anyway.
I want to be the kind of mom who encourages my daughter to take risks. I want to watch her dream and work hard to make those dreams come true.
Hang this up in your nursery to encourage your little babe to follow their dreams and look at it frequently as a reminder for yourself!
