sleep sack in baby crib

I’m a huge fan of using sleep sacks to dress your baby for sleep.

Sleep sacks are great when your baby is rolling over in sleep and you need to transition out of the swaddle.

The best sleep sacks will keep your baby warm and cozy while they sleep.

Dressing your baby in a sleep sack as part of your nap routine and bedtime routine is also a great sleep association. It signals that it’s time to wind down and get ready to snooze.

It’s also a safe alternative to loose bedding.

Keeping loose objects out of your baby’s crib until baby is 12 months old is recommended as safe sleep guidelines and to reduce the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).

But are sleep sacks a good option in the summer when temperatures rise?

Luckily, there are plenty of lightweight and breathable summer sleep sacks to keep your baby cool this summer.

Summer sleep sacks are a great way to dress your baby for sleep in the cooler months, while keeping them safe.

1. Kyte Baby Sleep Sack

The Kyte Baby lighter-TOG sleep sack is made from silky bamboo fabric with no inner lining, which makes it a nice and cool option for the summer.

The 0.5 TOG rated option is sure to keep your little one comfortable when they’re sleeping in the warmer months. It’s good for nurseries that get as warm as 78 degrees F.

Kyte Baby also makes higher TOG sleep sacks with polyester lining (in 1.0 and 2.5 TOG), in case you love it so much that you want to use their sleep sacks in cooler temperatures!

Woolino 4 Season Baby Sleep Sack - Ultimate Merino Wool Baby Sleeping Bag - Two-Way Zipper Adjustable Universal Size Sleep Sack for Baby (2-24 Months) - Birch Gray

2. Woolino Sleep Sack

The Woolino Sleep Sack is one of the best sleep sack options and a favorite of so many families because of its versatility.

The Woolino is made of super fine merino wool, making it a 4-season sleep sack that keeps your baby sleeping comfortably year-round. It’s suitable for sleep in temperatures from 63-75 degrees F.

At nearly $100, it’s one of the most expensive sleep sacks, but for good reason. It comes in a universal size (2-24 months), so it’s the only sleep sack you need for your growing babe!

The great thing about the Woolino is that it also makes for a great winter sleep sack, so you don’t have to buy multiple sleep sacks for different seasons.

It has adjustable shoulder tabs and a two-way zipper system, giving you access for easy diaper changes.

Another unique feature of the Woolino is that it has built-in seatbelt slots, so you can keep your baby cozy even while they’re sleeping in the car!

Love to Dream Swaddle Up Transition Swaddle, Patented Zip-Off Wings, Gently Help Baby Transition from Being Swaddled to Arms Free When Showing Signs of Rolling, 1.0 TOG, 13-19 lbs, Gray

3. Love to Dream Swaddle Up

I really like the Love to Dream Swaddle Up Transition Bag because its design helps you gently transition your baby out of the swaddle.

It’s shaped similarly to a traditional swaddle and has removable sleeves at the top, allowing you to keep your baby in a tighter fitting garment while still freeing their arms before they begin to roll.

The Swaddle Up is also the only swaddle that allows your baby to sleep with their arms in an “up” position instead of swaddled to their sides.

Love to Dream also makes a 0.2 TOG option called the Swaddle Up Lite. The Swaddle Up Lite is the lowest TOG rating on our list, making it an excellent light weight sleep sack for summer in the hotter climates.

4. Zipadee-Zip

Although the Zipadee-Zip website doesn’t list a TOG rating for this sleep sack, it is made of soft and breathable material designed specifically to avoid overheating.

The Zipadee-Zip’s unique starfish design makes it another great alternative for families who are transitioning out of the swaddle.

This sleep sack keeps all of your baby’s limbs (including their hands) enclosed and cozy without restricting their movement.

5. Baby Deedee Sleep Nest Lite

The Baby Deedee Sleep Nest Lite comes in three different sizes ranging from newborn to 36 months, making it one of the most long-lasting brands that can grow with your baby.

The 100% breathable soft cotton is rated 0.6 TOG and is recommended for room temperatures anywhere between 70-80 degrees F. That means it’s a perfect option to dress baby for sleep in the summer!

Like the Woolino, the Sleep Nest Lite has unique button-closure shoulder straps that set its design apart from the majority of brands. This gives you easy access to get your baby in and out of the sleep sack without a fuss.

Burt's Bees Baby Infant Wearable Blanket, 100% Organic Cotton Newborn Unisex Sleep Clothes Beekeeper - Light Weight 0.5 TOG or Medium Weight 1.5 TOG Sack

6. Burt’s Bees Wearable Blanket

Burt’s Bees sleep sacks are a well-known favorite among many new parents. With adorable neutral patterns and buttery soft fabric, these sleep sacks are a real crowd pleaser!

These beloved sleep sacks are made from 100% organic cotton, which is a major plus for sustainability.

The Burt’s Bees Wearable Blanket comes in two different TOG ratings, including a lightweight 0.5 TOG for warm summer months.

I love all the beautiful designs they have to choose from! The double zipper with zipper guard also makes these sleep sacks functional and safe.

HALO SleepSack, 100% Cotton Wearable Blanket, Swaddle Transition Sleeping Bag, TOG 0.5, Animal Paint, Large, 12-18 Months

7. Halo

Halo boasts on their website that their sleep sacks are the “#1 choice of 1,700 hospitals nationwide,” and I have to say they’re pretty great!

The sleep safety expert in me also loves that all of the Halo Sleep Sacks are embroidered with the safety reminder that “Back is Best.”

The Halo is a 100 percent cotton muslin sleep sack with a 0.5 TOG rating. That means it’s a great breathable and cool option for a summer sleep sack.

Halo makes sleep sacks going all the way up to 5T, making them one of the best toddler sleep sacks for big kids!

HALO SleepSack, 100% Cotton Wearable Blanket, Swaddle Transition Sleeping Bag, TOG 0.5, Animal Paint, Large, 12-18 Months

8. Hudson Baby

The Hudson Baby sleep sack is similar to the Halo, but you can often find it at a slightly lower price point.

Like the Halo, the Hudson Baby sleep sacks range in sizes from 0-24 months. They’re also 100% cotton and a 0.5 TOG rating.

One of the things that sets the Hudson Baby brand apart is that their sizing tends to run big. That means many families use these sleep sacks well beyond when their toddler turns 2.

For summer months, I recommend choosing one of their sleeveless sleep sack options as opposed to long sleeve.

These sleep sacks come in sizes S-XL, ranging from 0-24 months. The 100% organic cotton is lightweight and breathable, giving them a 0.5 TOG rating.

I like that Mama Cheetah’s hassle-free refund policy shows they stand behind the high quality of their product!
